The Beausejour Curling Club has been described as
the best-kept secret in Eastern Manitoba (Bob Picken, CJOB Radio).
It was formed in 1929 with a one-sheet rink and upgraded to a
two- sheeter in 1934. A
four-sheet curling rink was built in 1959 and served the community
until it burned down in 1986.
The
current six-sheet facility replaced the old curling rink and held its
grand opening in Nov. 1987.
The new Sun Gro Centre sportsplex facility
was attached to the front of the curling club in 2002 November.
The Beausejour Curling Club provides four leagues, Tuesday morning
recreational pick-up curling and junior after-school curling.
These
include:
Tuesday night Men's League
Wednesday night Ladies' League
Thursday night Men's League
Friday Mixed League
Tuesday Rec. curling
Monday after-school
Junior curling
(Grades 4 - 8)
When you become a member of the Beausejour Curling Club, you join a great

The curling club is attached to the new arena and together
is called Sun Gro Centre. The
facility is located off James Street near the Hall, Legion and Splash swimming pool.
A main lobby connects the arena and the curling club.
The curling club, with six sheets of ice, boasts one of the most beautiful
ice sheds in the
province.
The club area consists of three levels.
Each level provides viewing of the ice surface.
The upper level contains a bar/lounge
area and satellite wide screen TV, and offers a panoramic
view of all six sheets. The
clubroom wings are on the same level as the change/wash rooms and
provide additional
viewing of the outer curling sheets.
This level is wheelchair accessible. The lower level provides
an ice-level view.

Friday Night Mixed Curling League: This is a very inexpensive way to have some fun and get some exercise at the same time. Teams are typically 2 guys and 2 gals but this can vary. This league will be scheduled around bonspiels leaving 15-16 available dates (see below).
Curling for two-person teams (one rock per team pre-placed and each team throws 5 rocks) will be offered if there is sufficient interest.
| Tuesday Men Round 3 Schedule | start Oct. 11, 2011 7:30 PM |
| Wednesday Women 1st Half Schedule | start Oct. 12, 2011 |
| Thursday Men Round 4 schedule | start Oct. 13, 2011 7:00 PM |
| Friday Mixed Round 1 Schedule | start Oct. 14, 2011 7:30 PM |
| Tuesday Morning Recreational | start Oct. 18, 2011 |
| Monday After-School Curling | start Oct. 17, 2011 3:45 PM |
Each Monday evening from 7-8 PM, starting on October 17, qualified instructors will be available at the Beausejour Curling Club to provide newcomers with an orientation to the fundamentals of curling and to assist more experienced curlers in improving their skills. This instruction is available to all that are interested at no charge. Brooms and sliders are also available at no charge for those who simply want to give the sport a try before investing in equipment. To access this opportunity either come down to the curling club on any Monday at 7 PM or call Leon Dionne at 268-3550.
The Beausejour After-School curling league provides curling instruction and recreational curling for children in grades 4 to 8 on Mondays from 3:45 to 5:00 pm. They are in need of a coach for the 2011-2012 season as last year’s coach is no longer able to do it due to changes in her work commitments. A level one coaching certificate would be nice but it is not required. It’s more important that you enjoy working with children and are willing to help develop the next generation of club members. There are parent coordinators in place who will look after registrations, finances, etc. Senior students in the Curling Academy at Edward Schreyer School will be the coaches.
If you are interested or know anyone who might be, please contact Karen Kaminski at 265-3572 or kkaminsk@xplornet.com.
